AN UPDATE!
Yep. After nearly 17 months of inactivity, the MATT CASARINO DOT COM website is back up n’ running!
So where have I been?
I wish I could say I’ve been putting my fingers to the grindstone, hitting the tour circuit, lecturing, acting, singing, and basically being the best playwright/self-promoter/songwriter/actor/supporter of theatre/pop-culture aficionado I could be. But the truth is much murkier. I’ve written, yes, I’ve had a few productions, I’ve gone to some incredible workshops and had some amazing experiences, I’ve met wonderful people, I’ve even recorded a CD of original works. But I’ve also wasted time, moped, overcommitted myself, undercommitted myself, spent way too much time on fark.com and MySpace, and missed scores of opportunities, both to write and to get my works out there.
The highs have been incredible – I spent two weeks in Washington, DC with Gary Garrison and 40 amazing writers and people; distinguished actors Rick Foucheux and Jennifer Mendenhall read my play “How I Know Chuck” out loud while director Rebecca Taichman guided them; The PornoZombies had a local workshop featuring some of the very best people on the planet and two professional productions and a staged reading; I’ve traveled, I’ve written, I’ve won, I’ve lost, I’ve come oh-so-close; I recorded a CD of my songs called Songs for the Earthbound, which I give away to my friends and family; I had a great role in Urinetown, the Musical, which was a joy; and I’ve taken part in wonderful workshops and readings.
So believe me, I’m not complaining.
But I’m also in no position to sit back and rest – I’ve done way too much of that. There’s so much work to be done. So mattcasarino dot com is back, baby. Better than ever. It’ll have a page describing my plays, of course, and links to my resume and productions and updated notices of what’s next. It’ll also have more essays & goofy stuff (sometimes I just can’t write about theatre – sometimes I have to write about Gremlins 2 and Intellivision) and a revamped version of my “Tips” page, which is a little out of date. (I’ve learned a lot since then.) And finally it will have links to the pages of my friends, colleagues, people I love and admire, helpful websites, and just fun crap.
So thank you for staying with me during this long, hiatus. I’m maybe 10 pounds heavier, 5,000 hairs shorter, but I’m the same guy.
Love,
Matt
